Workplace challenges in summer

July 24, 2018

Keeping staff engaged and productivity levels up can be particularly challenging for employers during the summer months. Managers are faced with negotiating their team’s holidays whilst trying to ensure that work is still covered with minimal disruption.

This week an amber ‘heat health watch’ warning has been issued for parts of England. These are issued when temperatures are predicted to hit 30C (86F) during the day and 15C (59F) at night, for at least two consecutive days.

With a 90 per cent possibility of heatwave conditions in the south and east of the country, we are being warned to stay out of the sunshine between 11am and 3pm until Friday.

If you are lucky enough to have air conditioning at work, then at least your employees can be assured of comfortable working conditions during this period of higher than average temperatures. If, however you don’t have air conditioning, or your staff are working outside, have you ensured that you are making provisions to provide a comfortable working environment?
