World Cup 2018 - advice for employers

June 18, 2018

The World Cup is on until Sunday 15 July with match times in the UK between 1pm and 8pm. Many employees will be wanting to follow the games and may have already booked leave to watch them. For those that are at work and employers that are concerned about productivity and that want to reduce the impact that the World Cup could have on their business, Acas has advice on the following:

  • Planning ahead
  • Taking a flexible approach
  • Time off
  • Sickness absence
  • Website and social networking
  • Drinking or being under the influence at work

See another of our blogs with advice on managing sporting events at work.

Whatever your personal view it is important to acknowledge the World Cup as a topical issue and to appreciate that not all employees will be interested in the event. If you do screen matches consider where it is best to show them, as not everyone will appreciate the distraction, and be sensitive to why you are making allowances for this event and not other events.
